OUR STORY

ORGANOKE started south of the river in St. Giles’ Church, Camberwell in 2016. 

Whilst discussing ways to raise awareness and cash for the restoration of the 1844 organ designed by Samuel Sebastian Wesley, and built by Bishop & Son Organ Builders, Jordana Leighton, Tom Leighton and Ashley Valentine, thought it would be fun to organise an evening of Karaoke with the mighty organ. They added a 5 piece band, a screen and the best MC in town (Ida Barr), and thus ORGANOKE was born!

Almost impossible to describe, it is “a bit like the end of a wedding reception with the boring bits taken out “ and is an absolutely, euphorically joyful experience.

We have now done over 20 shows and been to Battersea Arts Centre and the Brighton Dome. We are always on the lookout for new venues, so if you know any venues that have functioning Organ, we’d love to chat. Email us at hello@organoke.com.

Profits raised from the event go towards raising both funds and awareness of the organ in order to restore the 19th Century Organ at St Giles’ Church.

WHAT IS ORGANOKE?

ORGANOKE is Karaoke...but not as you know it. It is a crazy show centred around joyful communal singing in beautiful venues with one strict stipulation: they must have that much underused and overlooked instrument …The Mighty Organ.

Come sing your heart out to Karaoke Classics with the star of the show: THE ORGAN and a full live band, with the inimitable Ida Barr: A rapping pensioner in all her faded Edwardian grandeur will get you on your feet singing like you’re Freddie Mercury on tour, as we turn the organ up to 11 for a joyous night of en-masse singing of your favourite classic “choons”!

1ST HALF - We curate the 1st half with a mass communal sing-song to the best bangers you never heard on an organ!

2ND HALF - You can be the star of the show, if the Tombola of Dreams chooses you!

Can’t sing? No problem - everyone else will drown you out! Won’t sing? We guarantee you will be by the end of the night. Desperate to sing solo? You’ll have a chance to take centre stage and channel your inner Mariah…if you want to!

We have no idea what will happen on the night…the show is in your hands…but we can guarantee you will leave on a euphoric-like high you’ve never known before.
